WOMEN’S HEALTH

Women’s health physiotherapy is a highly specialised sub-discipline that addresses female musculoskeletal health at every key life stage – from preparing the body for a hassle-free pregnancy and minimising the risk of post-partum complications to facilitating healthy breastfeeding and fast-tracking a new mum’s return to a ‘pre-baby body’ and regular exercise routine.

Where childbirth has caused excessive stretching or even tearing of muscles, or prolapse has occurred, women’s health physio is the gold standard for rehabilitation, methodically retraining and strengthening the female body’s intricate infrastructure.

Even for healthy women in their 20s and 30s, women’s physio can prevent longer term dysfunction and symptoms that may become evident at menopause – think incontinence caused by weakened pelvic floor muscles – and guard against other unwanted symptoms of menopause.

It can also diagnose and address conditions related to sexual pain, such as vaginismus (also known as genito-pelvic pain disorder) and vulvodynia. Highly trained in female anatomy, a Soaring Health Thomastown women’s health physiotherapist is attuned to the sensitive nature of conditions such as pelvic pain and potential for anxiety during assessment and treatment, and will actively involve clients in their own treatment and management plan.
