If you’re living with a disability, you’re probably familiar with the challenges of accessing the help you need. Not only can the required frequency of therapy can make paying fees unaffordable, funding provisions and onerous application processes can further delay treatment. At Soaring Health, we recognize the importance of accessing the therapeutic services you need, when you need them. As a registered NDIS provider, Soaring Health’s practitioners treat eligible participants under the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS). What’s more, our community coordinator and customer service team are well-versed in NDIS requirements and can help you to fast-track access to appropriate treatment.

Medicare

When you suffer chronic pain and persistent medical conditions, it can be hard to keep up with healthcare costs. Financial worries may cause you to forgo treatment that would relieve debilitating symptoms and improve your level of functioning and quality of life. At Soaring Health, we believe in removing barriers to you receiving the treatment you need. In the case of chronic pain lasting six months or more, we can provide fully bulk-billed treatment for up to five visits per year under Medicare’s Chronic Disease Management plan or CDM (formerly called an EPC), so you can access the treatment services you need, when you need them, without being out of pocket.

T.A.C

Motor vehicle injuries can vary in severity from minor to life-changing. At Soaring Health, we strive to resolve all injuries caused by transport accidents and collisions. The services available to TAC clients at Soaring Health have been purposefully selected and tailored to address the physical, mental and emotional effects of injuries caused by road trauma. My Aged Care

Many people associate the Australian government’s My Aged Care program purely with practical assistance with daily tasks and activities. But if you’re aged over 65, you may also be able to access Soaring Health services such as physiotherapy, hydrotherapy and home services fee-free through My Aged Care provisions, to enable you to maintain or regain capacities necessary for daily living, and relieve pain and conditions that may otherwise compromise your quality of life. Depending on your circumstances, you may ask your case manager to request these services as part of your support package.

  • What is physiotherapy?

  • How can I get the most out of seeing a physio?
    It is important to treat your physiotherapy program as a collaborative effort with your practitioner. One way you can optimise your treatment and hasten recovery is to consistently perform at-home exercises prescribed by your practitioner to complement techniques used in a treatment session. In conjunction with this, it is important to follow any self-management recommendations your practitioner makes, such as implementing changes to your exercise regimen or technique and avoiding certain types of movement or activities. Finally, make a point of becoming knowledgeable about your condition and keep any educational literature you’re given in sessions.
  • What does a typical physiotherapy session involve?
    The specific nature of a session will be guided by your unique needs. However, the typical progression of a physiotherapy treatment program entails some or all of the following:

    • Assessing and diagnosing your condition and treatment needs
    • Working with you to establish realistic goals and measurable results
    • Developing a treatment or prevention plan that considers your lifestyle, sporting activities or exercise regimen, and general health
    • Prescription of at-home exercises, self-management strategies and physical aids if required
  • What can I expect during my first visit?
    Initially, you can expect your physiotherapist to interview you about your current condition or injury, prior injuries or health issues, lifestyle, sports participation and goals, and general health. They may also review diagnostic items you have, such as x-rays or scans. This information will likely be complemented by a physical examination consisting of a number of tests. These may include posture assessment, joint palpation, muscle palpation, tests of muscle length/strength, measurement of joint movement and ligament stability and nerve function tests. Once they have a comprehensive picture of your condition and treatment needs, your practitioner will discuss your diagnosis and optimal treatment results, and, in conjunction with you, devise a realistic treatment plan. Your first session may also involve the commencement of hands-on techniques to reduce pain or movement limitations and facilitate better function.
  • Will I have to do ‘homework’?
    Self-management is vital within a physiotherapy program, both to fast-track recovery and guard against recurrence or worsening of your injury or condition. Your physio will guide you through both at-home exercises and optimal postures and positions for lifestyle and/or sports activities and exercise, to optimise treatment and promote long-term wellness.
  • Is physiotherapy treatment subsidised?
    Private health insurance members may claim instant health insurance rebates through hi-caps. In order to claim, you will need to bring your valid private health insurance card to your appointment. Otherwise you can claim online using your paid invoice.
  • What qualifications should I look for?
    Practising physiotherapists in Australia must have completed a tertiary qualification in physiotherapy such as a Bachelor of Physiotherapy or Bachelor of Applied Science (Physiotherapy) from an institution accredited by the Australian Physiotherapy Council. By law, Australian physiotherapists must be registered with the Physiotherapy Board of Australia before they can practice. In addition, all registered physiotherapists must undertake 20 hours of Continued Professional Development (CPD) each year to ensure that they are familiar with the latest evidence and clinical best practice.
