While many of us wouldn’t question the first two as proactive ways to maintain optimal wellness, often psychotherapy or talk therapy is associated with mental health conditions. Yet while psychologists can certainly assist with depression, anxiety and other diagnoses, often their work involves identifying everyday roadblocks to optimal functioning – think repetitive emotional reactions, recurring relationship issues, excessive stress, unhelpful beliefs and thought patterns, low confidence or self-esteem and self-sabotaging behaviours. It’s ‘normal’ stuff that comes with being human, but which may make being human feel especially hard!
